You crave change. It's something you deeply desire in your life. You wish for more love, more laughter, more joy. You dream of starting a business, beginning a new relationship, embracing more freedom, being financially abundant.
It's all on your bucket list. (Along with a few more other items I’m sure).
You dream of it. You hope for it. You pray for it. You fantasize about it. You make plans for that one day in the future.
But that day doesn't come.
On occasion you ponder why. Why haven’t your dreams come true yet? Why haven’t these dramatic life changes manifested in your life? You feel like you’re on the right track for the most part. You’ve made vision boards and studied the law of attraction. You know you’re ready to embrace change in your life, but for some reason everything still feels out of reach.
Allow me to share something.
Deep down you fear change.
Change is scary. Having something new means you have to do something different. It means you have to let go of the old. Sometimes that means ending relationships, walking away from toxic people, quitting the job, moving across the country, being brave and trying something new, investing in yourself in a bigger way. It also means becoming aware of the beliefs and patterns that are stopping you in your tracks and stepping into the unknown.
Walking into unknown territory can trigger all your stuff. The uncertainty of the outcome makes you doubt yourself, it keeps you small, it feels uncomfortable. You being to question the success rate, the actionable steps that you must take, the inner voice that keeps calling to you and so you move a bit slower and procrastinate. Your fight or flight can kick in and you allow the illusion of fear to dictate your life.
Not knowing where you are going can be scary. When you are unable to see all the steps to reach the change you desire it’s easy to just walk away and stay in the comfort zone that you know well. So your life continues on just as it was without much transformation at all. But you still dream about it. You still hold onto that vision. The only difference is you aren't taking action and following through on your dream.
Martin Luther King once said “You don't have to see the whole staircase you take the first step.”
